Four Views of the Hawkesbury

In landscape painting, a view might be thought of as terrain seen from a viewing point and falling within the frame of the work. Even so, viewing conditions can greatly alter what is to be seen. In Four Views of the Hawkesbury,  the same view, geographically speaking, is presented under different atmospheric conditions and times of day, such that we might equally say that the painting depicts four views rather than one.
