A play on Magritte’s La Reproduction Interdite (1937), the self-portrait in front of the mirror turns to the viewer and raises an eyebrow in comment, leaving the reflection as it would be seen if the subject had been facing the mirror. The object on the mantle is an African version of Janus, which will appear the same in a mirror as before the glass. Curiously, the Janus abides by Magritte’s “logic” while also being factually correct.
